You don’t need a degree to make a difference!

At the Boston HERC, we believe in the power of community to change lives. Our volunteers play a vital role in helping first-generation students thrive—academically, professionally, and personally. Whether you’re a seasoned educator, a recent college grad, a working professional, or are someone who cares, there’s a meaningful way for you to get involved and make an impact.

Ways to Volunteer

Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring in core subjects like math, English, and science. Support high school or college students with homework help, study strategies, and test prep.

support

Classroom Support
Join our Passport Coaches in the classroom to help facilitate activities, share your knowledge, and encourage students as they build college and career readiness skills.

Coaching

Career Guest Speaker
Share your personal career journey with a group of students in a classroom or after-school setting. Inspire the next generation with your experience, challenges, and advice.

Panel

Career Panelist
Participate in a moderated career panel alongside other professionals. Panels allow students to hear a variety of career paths and ask questions in a dynamic group setting.

Resume

Mock Interviewer or Resume Reviewer
Support our students in preparing for the workforce by offering mock interviews or feedback on their resumes during special workshops.

Care Packages

Care Package Party Host

Gather friends, colleagues, or community members to assemble care packages for our students during finals, midterms, or key transitions. Packages include snacks, school supplies, and words of encouragement to remind students they’re supported and not alone.

Why Volunteer?

Who Can Volunteer?

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, especially first-gen college grads and professionals of color who reflect the communities we serve. You don’t need to be an educator to make a difference—just someone who cares.
